Developing and disseminating scientific knowledge is the goal of the Territorial Technological Vocational Technology Center (CVTT), which opened in July at the Presidente Tancredo Neves Rural Family House (CFR-PTN). The result of an agreement signed in November 2009 by the CFR-PTN and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of Bahia – which has invested BRL 329,000 in the center – the CVTT will serve the population of the Southern Bahia Lowlands and the surrounding area.

The Center is a teaching and professional education unit that includes a multidisciplinary lab (chemistry, physics and biology) and another lab facility that will analyze plant tissue, water and soil samples. The Center is mainly equipped to develop cassava farming but can also study other crops. It has already conducted about 50 soil and water tests, indirectly benefiting 150 small farm  families.
