Combating and Preventing Dengue. This was the focus of the Social Civil Action (ACISO) promoted by the Brazilian Army in Bahia’s Southern Lowlands in March. Through lectures, the initiative involved youth from the Family Homes and members of the cooperatives associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands  Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Integrated and Sustainable Development Program (PDIS), instituted by the Odebrecht Foundation.

Types of prevention and treatment, symptoms of dengue fever and awareness raising as to the risks of the disease were among the topics addressed during the meetings. Participants also received information on Sickle Cell Anemia and Alcoholism.

The ACISOs were first held in the region in 2007 at the installations of the Youth House State High School in Igrapiúna. In 2009, an agreement signed with the Pratigi EPA Guardian Association made it possible to expand the initiatives, which also began to take place in Family Homes.
