The Pratigi Environmental Protection Area Intermunicipal Consortium (CIAPRA) made it possible to insert two Bahia municipalities into the pilot project Digital Cities: Nilo Peçanha and Piraí do Norte.

Under the responsibility of the Ministry of Communications Department of Digital Inclusion (MiniCom), Digital Cities allows for the modernization of city administration by installing the infrastructure for the network connection between public agencies, the training of public workers and the offer of spaces with free Internet access for the population. The initiative is developed in partnership with the Minister of Planning, National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES), TELEBRAS (Brazilian Telecommunication Company) and INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology).

“I believe that technology has been administrators’ greatest ally when it comes to improving public services,” said Heráclito Menezes, Mayor of Piraí do Norte and President of CIAPRA. “The implementation of the project will bring many benefits for the areas of health, safety and education, among others,” Menezes.

In partnership with the Bahia Government and Odebrecht Foundation, the consortium is one of the founders of the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS).
