A project that was created inspired by another, supported by the Odebrecht Foundation in the Bahia Southern Lowlands, is earning increasing visibility in Angola, site of the Laúca Hydroelectric Facility, with construction work by Odebrecht Engineering & Construction International – Infrastructure. On August 3, the Laúca Hydroelectric Facility Aquiculture Pilot Program – whose farm raised fish supply the construction site cafeteria – received a visit from Victoria de Barros Neto, the country’s Minister of Fisheries. She got an up-close look at the social work that directly and indirectly benefits 125 people from the Middle Kwanza Region.

The project involves the government, clients and local communities and is based on the Continental Water Aquaculturists’ Cooperative (COOPECON), which is part of the foundation’s Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS). In 2015, the minister and her delegation had already gone to the Southern Lowlands to learn more about the COOPECON operations. “I was able to note several similarities between the work developed by the foundation and what is done in Angola,” said Neto. “Always thinking about the families, the projects are models in sustainability and replicable, high impact growth,” she said.
