The Land Conservation Organization (OCT), an institution supported by the Odebrecht Foundation through the PDCIS Program, launched a pamphlet written by small rural producers from the Bahia Southern Lowlands. “SAF-From Implementation to Model” is a good practices guide about Agroforestry Systems, a crop planting model that integrates the rural activity with the forest.
After receiving the publication, the producers – who now make up the group Farmers who Multiply Sustainable Agriculture (AMAS) – have the responsibility of taking the knowledge to their communities through visits, workshops, lectures and seminars.
For Volney Fernandes, Executive Director of OCT, the initiative creates a virtuous cycle of changes in the Pratigi Environmental Protection Area. “With AMAS, we are helping to transform a territory through the farmers, which become better managers of their properties,” said Fernandes. Those responsible for the content of the brochure. “Now, we are actually ready to transmit what we have learned,” said Jairo Souza, resident of Igrapiúna.
