The Rights and Citizenship Institute (IDC), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation through the PDCIS Program, reached the mark of 8,000 people assisted in 2015. Among the services offered are support for issuing free basic identification documents, access to legal aide and actions that promote social inclusion.
Besides the main office, located in the Bahia municipality of Presidente Tancredo Neves, the IDC also offers “Rights Counters” in other cities of the state, such as Nilo Peçanha, Camamu, and Valença. “I am very pleased to be part of building these citizens’ lives,” said Lenira Costa, Coordinator of the Action and Citizenship project in Nilo Peçanha. “Together, we are stronger and we can bring dignity to those who find themselves at the edge of moral and social values,” she said.
Since 2002, the IDC has contributed toward the development of citizenship by democratizing access to legal aide and education. The institute also works to raise awareness in the community and disseminate participative emocracy by structuring and strengthening social organizations.
